Celebrates Armed Forces Day with WWII Warbird Flights in St. George

0

In honor of Armed Forces Day, Utah Warbird Adventures is offering limited flights in a T-6 “Texan” World War II aircraft as a part of the Wings & Wheels celebration at the Western Sky Aviation Warbird Museum on Saturday, May 20th, from 9:00am to 5:00pm.

One of the most iconic aircraft of all time, the T-6 “Texan” was used as an advanced training plane during and after WWII, and was most frequently referred to as “The Pilot Maker.” The aircraft’s presence and flights at the weekend celebration are made in dedication to WWII veterans, and all veterans. Crowds will be treated to the unique and impressive sound of the plane’s radial engine, as well as its true-to-form WWII-era look as it loops, rolls, and flies through the sky, just as pilots would have done in WWII training.

And crowds will receive more than a nostalgic look at the history of WWII Warbird planes with the arrival of the T-6. Utah Warbird Adventures is offering limited flights on the day of the event, giving the public the chance to fly just like WWII pilots, according to owner and pilot, Barry Hancock. “I went to air shows and dreamed about doing what the pilots were doing,” said Hancock. “Being a pilot is not something everyone wants to do, but flying in an airplane like this might be on their bucket list, and it will be amazing to share this experience.”

Flights on the T-6 “Texan” are $375 for a 20-minute flight, and longer flights are available. Future fliers ages 8 and up can pre-register online at www.utahwarbiradventures.com to guarantee their flight, but walk-ups are welcome day-of on a space-available basis.

Wings & Wheels 2017 attendees will see other vintage aircraft, classic cars, hot rods, model aircraft displays and more both outside and inside the Western Sky Aviation Warbird Museum at the St. George Municipal Airport. The Wings & Wheels event goes from 10:00am to 3:00pm. Visit www.westernskywarbirds.org for more information.
