County Library To Celebrate Kids Again and Again… and Again

The County Library is celebrating kids from April 24 through May 7 with the Week of the Young Child (April 24-28), Kids Fiesta (April 29) and Children’s Book Week (May 1-7).

“Our goal is to support families in helping their children gain all the skills they need to be successful in school and life,” said Susan Spicer, the County Library’s Early Learning Program Manager.

During the Week of the Young Child, the County Library will be sharing fun activities and parenting tips to promote early learning.

On Saturday, April 29, the Library’s Viridian Event Center will host Kids Fiesta to honor El día de los niños/El día de los libros (Day of the Child/Day of the Book) from 11 am to 2 pm, featuring a free, family-friendly afternoon of live music, storytellers in English and in Spanish, piñatas, crafts, a magic show, hands-on learning and more. El día de los niños/El día de los libros culminates yearly in April to recognize children and families while emphasizing the importance of literacy for individuals of all linguistic and cultural backgrounds.

In conjunction with Children’s Book Week, a program dedicated to inspiring a lifelong love of reading in children and teens across America, the County Library will offer children’s book recommendations. The County Library is excited to celebrate and support their youngest patrons through these events and the many programs and resources on offer.

The County Library offers a text messaging service to provide early learning tips for parents and others who support the development of young brains. To receive this service, text “signup” (without quotes) to 385.206.6828 — for tips in Spanish, text “registrese.” Carrier rates may apply.

StorySpace (an online storytime experience), WEeLearn (early learning Playaway tablets), and many storytimes and other early learning programs regularly take place in various branches of the County Library to help grow great learners.
