Discovery Gateway Children’s Museum Hosts Día de los Muertos Cultural Celebration

Discovery Gateway Children’s Museum will host a Día de los Muertos cultural celebration on Friday November 1st from 1-6p, and Saturday November 2nd from 10:30am-6pm.

Experience the traditional Mexican holiday, Día de los Muertos or Day of the Dead at Discovery Gateway Children’s Museum. The Museum will offer free admission on Friday November 1st from 1-6pm! The event will open with a special presentation and blessing of the ofrenda, a beautiful altar to honor deceased loved ones with special offerings. After that, make paper flowers and decorative papel picado while watching Disney’s hit movie, Coco! On Saturday, as the festivities continue, experience a Chocolate Making Workshop! Learn how chocolate is made while making your own tasty treat! Registration and fee required for chocolate workshop, visit discoverygateway.org to register.

“It’s so important for Discovery Gateway to offer rich cultural programs to young children and families in our community. Offering experiences tied to the many diverse cultures in Utah and from around the world helps build understanding, acceptance and strengthens our community,” said Executive Director Laurie Hopkins.

In addition to the celebration, Discovery Gateway will also feature an exhibit loaned to them by the Mexican Consulate called, This is my Mexico, which features children’s drawings about their favorite heroes in Mexican Culture.

*Please note admission to the museum is only free on Friday from 1-6pm.
