Register by July 18 for Hogle Zoo’s Next ‘Zoo for You’ Class for Special Needs Students.

Do you have what it takes to run a zoo? It’s more than just showing animals! Keepers must know what each animal eats and where it should live, and even how to take it to the doctor so the animal can live a zoo-pendous life! “How to Zoo” includes instructional time with pictures, animal artifacts, live animals, zoo keeper and zoo veterinarian encounter, and a guided visit in the Zoo for the student and accompanying adult. The class if for ages 6-18 and will be taught on Zoo grounds on Tuesday, July 25 from 9 am-noon.

Utah’s Hogle Zoo’s “Zoo Just for You” programming has been developed specifically for students with special needs. Live animals, photographs, skull models, pelts, animal figures and more engage students and demonstrate concepts. The program utilizes a sensory motor approach where students move between stations and are encouraged to touch, smell and feel all appropriate items. The program can be geared towards students of any age and functioning level.

The class fee is $25 and includes an accompanying adult. All students must register online in advance by July 18 to ensure their place in the class. Visit hoglezoo.org/zoojustforyou for more information and to register your child. Email Elise at zoojustforyou@hoglezoo.org for more information.
