Hogle Zoo Offers Classes for Special Needs Students

The registration is now open for Hogle Zoo’s February’s “Zoo Just for You” classes. These classes have been developed specifically for students with special needs. Live animals, photographs, skull models, pelts, animal figures and more are used to engage students and demonstrate concepts. The program utilizes a sensory motor approach where students move between stations and are encouraged to touch, smell and feel all appropriate items. The program can be geared towards students of any age and functioning level.

Magnificent Mammals for ages 6-8 on February 15

A “Magnificent Mammals” class for students ages 6-18 with Autism Spectrum Disorders will take place Feb. 15. The registration deadline is Feb 8. Do you have what it takes to be a mammal? You bet! Some mammals are larger than school buses, and others are smaller than your little finger, but they all have three things in common! Discover the three I.D.s of a mammal, and find out which ones break the rules. Class includes a short instructional time with pictures, animal artifacts, live animals, interactive play, and guided short visit in the Zoo for the child and accompanying adult.
