The registration deadline is fast approaching for Hogle Zoo’s November “Zoo Just for You” classes. These classes have been developed specifically for students with special needs. Live animals, photographs, skull models, pelts, animal figures and more are used to engage students and demonstrate concepts. The program utilizes a sensory motor approach where students move between stations and are encouraged to touch, smell and feel all appropriate items. The program can be geared towards students of any age and functioning level.

Zoo Just for Little You for ages 2-5 on November 12

A “Zoo Just for Little You” class for early learners (ages 2-5) with Scales and Tales takes place Nov. 12. The registration deadline is Nov. 5. Do tortoises know their ABCs? Maybe not, but you will have a blast discovering more about Alligators, Boas and Chuckwallas and other reptiles in the alphabet. Class includes stories, animal ambassadors, interactive play and a guided short visit in the Zoo for the child and an accompanying adult.

Zoo Just for You for ages 6-18 on November 16

A “Radical Reptiles” class for students ages 6-18 with Autism Spectrum Disorders takes place Nov. 16. The registration deadline is Nov. 9. Reptiles come in many shapes and sizes. Some slither, others crawl – some have sharp fangs, and others have no teeth at all! At the Zoo kids will uncover what these scaly creatures have in common, and what makes them different. Class includes a short instructional time with pictures, animal artifacts, live animals, interactive play, and a guided short visit in the Zoo for the child and accompanying adult.
