Lanterns Will Again Illuminate the Utah Sky

Lantern Fest returns after successful spring event

On April 30, thousands of revelers gathered at Utah Motor Sports Campus beneath a sky painted by lanterns. Lantern Fest organizers announced this morning that the event will return on August 20 for another spectacular festival of light.

“Salt Lake City is our hometown,” said Lantern Fest spokeswoman Amy Gessel. “We are thrilled to be organizing a second event here for 2016.”

In April, more than 8500 participants enjoyed the family-friendly festival that included food, music, vendors, face painting, princesses and more. Event organizers anticipate even more Utah families to join the celebration, when the Lantern Fest returns. Gates will open at 4 p.m. and participants can settle in, roast some s’mores and enjoy the surrounding activities. At sundown thousands of lanterns will illuminate the sky in one spectacular release.

“The event is community oriented,” said Lantern Fest co-owner John Malfatto. “We make sure that activities at the event are fun for all ages so there is a never a dull moment leading up to the lantern release.”

Lantern Passes are now available and are required for admission to the event. Each pass comes with a lantern, marker, s’mores kit, and lighter. Participants are encouraged to register at www.thelanternfest.com/location/salt-lake-city-summer/ before June 10 to take advantage of the current pricing. About The Lantern Fest

Historically, Chinese Lanterns were used to symbolize good fortune, request favorable weather and celebrate the lives of loved ones. In 2014, The Lantern Fest transformed this ancient tradition into a family-friendly festival with food, music, s’mores and children’s entertainment. When the sun goes down lanterns will paint the sky in a spectacular release. The Lantern Fest is growing rapidly, and now holds events all over the country.
