Waddle Your Way to Penguin Awareness Week at Loveland Living Planet Aquarium

Did you know Gentoo penguins are the world’s fastest swimming bird, reaching speeds of up to 22 miles per hour? Did you know the Little blue penguin is the smallest of the penguin species, standing only about one foot tall? Or that Emperor penguins can dive down 1,800 feet and hold their breath for 22 minutes?

The Aquarium is teaching guests all about penguins during Penguin Awareness week from January 18th through the 24th. Guests can go on a scavenger hunt to learn about penguins of the world, and earn a special penguin button for completing the game. Visitors can also watch a Penguin Feeding every day at 4 p.m.

The Aquarium is also partnering with Mountain America Credit Union to name the last baby penguin. Five baby penguins were born this summer. Four of them are named. The only girl is named Ava, and the others are Uno, Scamper and Airn (pronounced Aaron). The Aquarium is running a Facebook contest currently to name the last one.

The Aquarium is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The Aquarium’s mission is to inspire people to explore, discover and learn about Earth’s diverse ecosystems. Advance tickets and memberships may be purchased online at Ticket sales help support the Aquarium’s mission. The Loveland Living Planet Aquarium is located at 12033 South Lone Peak Parkway in Draper.
