10 Great Activities to Celebrate Earth Day 2017 in Utah

1. Hogle Zoo's Party for the Planet

The Association of Zoos and Aquariums is throwing a party - over 100 parties throughout the country to be exact - to Party for the Planet. Celebrate the earth at Hogle Zoo with animal enrichment, presentations, and informative booths.  Learn about all the small things you can do that will make a big impact on our planet.

Learn about what you can do to help the planet and coexist with our native animals, with the help of Wild Aware Utah and other groups on site from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

2. Ogden Nature Center's Earth Day Fair


LOCATION: Ogden Nature Center, 966 W. 12th Street, Ogden, UT 84404 
DATE: Saturday, April 22
TIME: 11:30 a.m.-4 p.m.
ADMISSION: $4/person

Fun and engaging activities, puppets, a water-wise perennial plant sale, live performances, green gurus, environmental experts, arts, crafts, fresh food and more. All ages are invited.

The Earth Day Fair will be held rain or shine. Alternative transportation and carpooling is encouraged

3. Earth Day Service Project on Parley's Trail


LOCATION: Hidden Hollow Park, 1201 E Wilmington Ave, Salt Lake City, Utah 84106
DATE: Friday, April 21
TIME: 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
ADMISSION: Your Sweat & Labor

Clean up and replant Hidden Hollow and The Draw. Volunteers will be planting new trees, shrubs and brush to beautify this piece of the trail. You can register and keep up to date with event details on the Facebook page.


4. LLPA Penguin World Record Attempt


LOCATION: Loveland Living Planet Aquarium, 12033 S Lone Peak Pkwy, Draper, UT 84020
DATE: Saturday, April 22
TIME: 2-4 p.m.
ADMISSION: $4/person

Yes, this is really going to happen and it's going to be hilarious! Join in on the fun at the Loveland Living Planet Aquarium as they attempt the record for "most people making a penguin call simultaneously." This family-friendly event is to be followed by a Penguin Dance Party. Get your waddle on!


5. Earth Day Celebration at the Museum of Ancient Life at Thanksgiving Point

ADMISSION: $10/adult and $8/child

To celebrate Earth Day, the Museum of Ancient Life is making a huge announcement about the future of the museum! After the special announcement takes place there will be all sorts of Earth Day games, activities, and prizes.

6. Zion Canyon Earth Day Celebration - FREE Zions Park Entrance

ADMISSION: Free and Free Zions Park admission

Make a weekend road trip out of your Earth Day celebration! Receive free admission to Zions National Park April 22-23 as part of National Parks Week. 

Nothing celebrates the splendor of Zion National Park like Earth Day. This great annual event is hosted on the grounds of the Bit and Spur in Springdale.

Live solar powdered music will be accompanied by art and food vendors, activities and demonstrations about alternative energy, native plants, solar ovens, environmental art and sustainable products. Kids can participate in activities at the Kids Zone.

7. Earth Day Art Workshop at Marmalade Library


LOCATION: Marmalade Library, 280 W 500 N, Salt Lake City, UT 84103
DATE: Saturday, April 22
TIME: 3-5 p.m.

Celebrate Earth Day by turning your trash into treasure with local artist Andrea Henkels Heidinger. Bring your non-toxic, difficult-to-recycle post-consumer waste and use it to create a unique work of art. Salt Lake County Recycling will also be on-hand to present recycling dos and don'ts.


8. Earth Day Spring Garden Tour at Red Butte Garden


LOCATION: Red Butte Garden and Arboretum, 300 S Wakara Way, Salt Lake City, UT 84108
DATE: Saturday, April 22
TIME: 10 a.m.-noon
ADMISSION: Garden admission fees apply

Explore what's blooming throughout the Garden. Walk with one of the Garden Guides to take an intimate look at the Garden and see how it has changed. Wear comfortable clothes and walking shoes. Meet in the Visitor Center Courtyard.  Registration required -- see the above link.


9. Fish for Garbage on the Provo River


LOCATION: Provo Canyon Vivian Park, 8841 Alpine Scenic Hwy, Provo, UT 84604
DATE: Saturday, April 22
TIME: 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
ADMISSION: Your Time and Labor

Attendees are requested to safely collect trash along the Provo River and deliver it to Vivian Park Pavilion 1. In exchange for their garbage, they will be given 1 voucher for a free lunch (redeemed between noon and ) and a prize drawing ticket. the prize drawing will be held at 4 p.m. must be present to win. No family members, sponsors, or organizers are eligible.

10. South Jordan Earth Day 10K


LOCATION: West Riverfront Park, 11050 S River Front Pkwy
South Jordan, UT 84095
DATE: Saturday, April 22
TIME: 11:30 a.m.-4 p.m.

Show your love for Mother Earth and race for the green in the Earth Day 10k! Runners are invited to bring a bag of aluminum cans to recycle and be entered into a drawing to win a bit of green for your pocket. All runners receive a race shirt and finisher medal.
