The Spring Adventure+Gear Fest, Utah’s largest public mountain and outdoor recreation expo, yesterday announced the first-ever Wasatch Mountain Film Festival.

Presented in partnership with Wasatch Mountain Arts – and sponsored by both The North Face and the North Face Store at Fashion Place Mall – the festival will showcase extreme adventure, environmental and social-impact films. RedBull, Teton Gravity research and Sherpa Cinemas will be among those contributing to the event.

The film festival takes place Friday, April 17, the opening day of the two-day Spring Adventure+Gear Fest. Both the film festival and expo are being held at the Sandy South Town Expo Center.

The expo runs from noon to 9 p.m. on Friday (10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday), and the film festival from 7 to 10:30 p.m. Buy tickets for the film festival by visiting www.adventuregearfest.com or www.wasatchmountainarts.com/events. Film Fest Tickets come with free access to the expo portion of the Adventure+Gear Fest, plus chances to win great gear and prizes.

A box office will also be selling tickets the day of the festival, but tickets are expected to sell out fast – buying through the sites online is recommended.

“Banff has its Banff Mountain Film Festival, Telluride has its own Mountain film event – it’s high time that Utah, which is world-famous for its iconic mountains, powder, adventure and red-rock, have its own film festival celebrating both the great outdoors and the arts,” expo Event Director, Josh Christensen said.

The Adventure+Gear Fest features thousands of the newest products of the season; hundreds of outdoor experts, industry insiders and celebrities; loads of contests and more than a dozen activities, from a mountain bike and fat bike demo track to climbing walls, adventure vehicles and a mega ramp open for the public.

“If you spend any time at all in Utah’s world famous outdoors – hiking, rafting, paddle-boarding, biking, shooting photos, even just soaking in the outdoor rays – this is an event you won’t want to miss,” said Josh Christensen. “We’ve got all of the must-have equipment at prices you won’t find anywhere else, plus tons of great events that will be a blast for you, your kids and the family.”

The range of gear brands is as wide as the Wasatch itself. Check out mountain biking, running and trail running, camping, climbing, rafting, kayaking, stand-up paddle-boarding, adventure travel, overland expeditions, skiing, snowboarding, racing, outdoor photography and more —and many by local companies.

“This is a great chance to celebrate some of Utah’s greatest assets – not to mention greatest companies – and get ready for another amazing spring and summer,” Christensen said.

Tickets to the Adventure+Gear Fest cost $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 6 to 13. Online discounts and group packages for families of four and five are also available.
