Be One of the 50,000 Voices To Help Shape Utah’s Future

0

Envision Utah, a regional planning organization is looking to gather 50,000 opinions from Utahns on important topics that can help shape the future planning decisions throughout the state, in preparation for the state’s population doubling by the year 2050. Utah Family Magazine would like to encourage parents to participate and give voice to our children’s needs in topics including agriculture, air quality, water resources, education, transportation, and more. This is a great opportunity to help shape the process that will be shaping the home of future generations to come.

Recognizing that by 2050 Utah’s population will nearly double, Governor Herbert tasked a group of 400 experts in many fields to help formulate the survey. The process of developing the survey took 18 months. The survey was built based on extensive public participation—through values studies, meetings, and online input—to identify what matters most to Utahns.

The process led to 11 issues covered in the survey scenarios, the choices we have, and the outcomes we face. Those issues include:

  • Air quality
  • Education
  • Energy
  • Housing and cost of living
  • Jobs and economy
  • Public lands
  • Recreation
  • Agriculture
  • Transportation and communities
  • Water
  • Disaster resilience

The results of the survey will lead to a vision for Utah’s future. That vision will be used by policymakers, local governments, businesses, developers, and the public to make sure we all know how to shape the Utah we all want in 2050.
